Before we discuss about how to choose the right digital marketing vertical, I want to add a word of caution.
I strongly recommend you to get a sound knowledge on the core topics of Marketing before choosing a marketing vertical.
This will give you a lot of clarity in what you want to do as a marketer and you will be 100x more effective than someone who is shooting in the dark without understanding the core marketing topics.
The Core Marketing Topics are –
- Behavioral Psychology
- Branding and Positioning
- Funnel Marketing
Only after you finish these topics, I recommend you to choose your vertical that you want to specialize in.
Now, let’s get started about how you should choose the right marketing vertical…
Marketing Base Skills
To succeed in marketing, you need two base skills
- Quant Skills
- Creative Skills
All of us will have one dominant side when it comes to these base skills
Either we are good with numbers, logical reasoning and analysis (that describes your affinity towards quant skills)
Or we are good with words, art, music, dance or any form of expression (that describes your affinity towards creative skills)
Some people are good at both, but that is very rare. In most cases we side with any one of these base skills.
If you are good with numbers, logical reasoning and analysis otherwise known as quant skills, I will strongly recommend you to choose any vertical from Paid Acquisition Bucket or the Monetization Bucket.
If you are good with creative skills, then I will strongly recommend to choose any vertical from the Content Bucket.
Now, the question that I get most often from my students is, should I master all the verticals under a bucket?
The answer is “No” – you need not master all the verticals; in fact, it is impossible to master all the verticals.
In the next video, I will tell you in detail about how many verticals you need to master and how to structure your career in the right way so that you can fastrack your career to become a Top 1% Marketer.
Be Remarkable. Be an Alpha.
